Large, long track tornado passed about a mile south of our house in Hattiesburg, MS at around 4:00 am CST this morning. We’re ok, but this isn’t good at all. This powerful image shows the local news station when it lost sound during the warning. Kudos to them for improvising and keeping people aware.

Had a university take a direct hit. Lots of damage and injuries reported through several counties. hankfully I think where I work is ok but as of right now I am waiting till daylight to get photos. I’m an amateur storm chaser and normally tornadoes don’t bother me, but having a tornado at night is bad and I will admit it was very tense for several minutes.

Almost 4 years ago we had an EF-4 pass right through Hattiesburg. Nobody was killed in that one thankfully. I hope the same holds true for this. I will update as more information is gathered.

Uh-oh, a University took a tornado on a Friday night? I wonder how many drunk kids went outside to look at it?

Glad you’re OK.

I’m an amateur storm chaser and it scared me. I don’t like night tornadoes.

It’s a private Christian University and it’s very much dark here still.

Yeah. It’s not good for others though.

Glad you’re OK, best wishes for your community at large.

Crazy weather recently. Im in VA, two weeks ago we had a sub freezing five or six day stretch capped off by a small snow. Its been spring weather since, mid 50s to 60s. Last night it barely dipped below 50.

Scary stuff, glad you’re OK! Glad the most we have to deal with here in Nova Scotia is hurricanes and blizzards...

Glad you’re okay! Sometimes I miss the frantic weather when I lived in Alabama, but then I remember that the frantic weather goes wrong.

Tornadoes at night are literally my biggest fear. It’s just so terrifying.

2 of my friends were at the University of Alabama when it got hit by the tornado back in 2011, they were like a block away from where it touched down. They were ok, tree came close to hitting his car. Glad you’re alright.

Kinja'd!!!

That city got hit pretty bad

Glad to hear you and your family are ok. We actually had the kids and dogs in the pantry for 40 minutes the other night as our tornado sirens were going off. It’s always scary once the kids are potentially in harm’s way.

Indeed it is. We got in the closest with our two dogs and two cats. I’m actually glad my wife’s two kids were with their dad this weekend since that house is further north of here.

Found out the entire campus had damage. They have to close. No idea when it will reopen. I dunno where or when classes will resume for those kids. Damn shame since that college has so many people from out of state.

The Tuscaloosa tornado was awful. I followed it online as it was happening. I gotta say, though, that James Spann is one of the best damn Meteorologists in the business. He saved a lot of lives that day.

Yeah. The patterns have definitely shifted in the last few decades. The midwest still gets a lot, but we do too now and it’s not a good sign.

Thank you. Several are saying this one is a lot worse than the 2013 EF-4 we had. I believe them from what I have seen and hears so far.

Definitely. I will chase during the day, but never at night. It’s just too risky.
